What it is
Y2K TOUR is a board-game tournament for streamers and their guilds. Every streamer is a token on a shared 64-cell map. A dice roll lands them on a cell, and the cell hands out a retro game. They have to beat it live on stream before they can move again.
The first to reach the finish or to score 100 points wins.
How a turn works
- Roll. Four rolls a week, no more than two on weekdays. The big moves happen at weekends, when streams have the most viewers.
- Cell. A game cell hands out a game. A buff, debuff or event applies right away.
- Live run. 30 minutes to set up, then only playing time counts.
- Result. Beat it and move on. Give up and you are sent back.
What is on the map
| Cell | Count | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Game | 35 | Hands out a game, the same for everyone who lands there |
| Jackpot | 5 | +5 points for beating its game, and a checkpoint you cannot fall back past |
| Buff | 6 | A helpful effect, plus another roll |
| Debuff | 6 | A harmful effect: steps back, a skipped turn, a long game |
| Event | 3 | Can help or hurt — an earthquake shakes everyone at once |
| Ladder | 3 | Jump forward 3–5 cells |
| Snake | 3 | Slide back 3–5 cells |
| Finish | 1 | The last game, “The Castle”. Beat it and you win |
Fair play
Runs are confirmed by RetroAchievements, a free site with achievements for classic games. Only Hardcore mode counts: no saving anywhere and no rewind. The tournament site sees when a game is beaten and unlocks the next turn.
Viewers and guilds
Every streamer has a guild. Viewers join it through an invite link, play along with their streamer and earn sparks for the guild.
How to take part
Applications are open until the start on 1 November. Apply on the tournament website after reading the rules. You will need a RetroAchievements account and an emulator that supports achievements, such as RetroArch.
